Professor Shyam Visweswaran was the inaugural speaker in a seminar series on Clinical Ai for the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health at University of Melbourne.
He speaks about Artificial Intelligence (AI), and how it has emerged as a transformative force in healthcare, offering unprecedented opportunities to enhance clinical decision-making processes. The integration of AI-based clinical decision support (AI-CDS) systems into healthcare settings aims to improve patient outcomes, streamline workflows, and mitigate human error by leveraging the capabilities of machine learning algorithms. He will discuss why healthcare requires AI-CDS, briefly detailing the stages involved in the development and evaluation of AI-CDS, and present some examples of AI-CDS projects now under development at the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, he will briefly outline fairness in AI-CDS in terms of racial bias.
